  • Main directions are four – East, West, South and North.

  • To solve the type of problems, the student should know the directions properly without any confusion. The following diagram shows all the directions and the student should memorize diagram.

  • Main Direction :-

1. East

2. West

3. South

4. North

  • Sub direction or cardinal direction :-

1. North East

2. South East

3. South West

4. North West

  • It mean total directions are Eight

[(4) Main + (4) Sub directions]

  • If you have problems in remembering the above diagram then just remember the word 'NEWS' and a reverse 'S' of course, this 'S' is not like your normal 'S' Look at the below figure.

NEWS :– (N) – North

                 (E) – East

                 (W) – West

                 (S) – South

  • Rotation diagram :-

  • Direction change (i) Clockwise Rotation :-

  • (ii) Anti clock wise direction change :-

Students are advised to use of diagrams as given in question for the purpose of sensing directions.

  • Angle formed between two main directions is 90°

  • Angle formed between a cardinal direction and a main direction is 45°

  • Right direction rotation or clock wise rotation:-

  • Clock wise & anticlockwise rotation :-

Some tricks related to directions:-

1. 180° Left / right rotation mean :- opposite direction

2. 360° Left / right rotation mean → same direction

3. Left turn means → 90° Left side turn

4. Right turn Means → 90° Right side turn

5. 4 times right / left turn means – face in same direction
